“Something quite extraordinary” A recent ’shoe’ centerpiece we did for a beautiful luncheon. It is made with fresh pink sweetheart roses and darker pink wax flowers and set on a ‘bed’ of leaves and podocarpus ‘grass’. This would be perfect for bridal luncheons and showers, Sweet 16 birthday parties, and more!

Here is the beautiful cascading bridal bouquet that we made in Flower School. It included fresh eucalyptus, ivy vines, ruscus, lisianthus, roses, calla lilies, and orchids. Everything had to be hand-wired, but it was well worth it!

Just an example of the unbelievable fresh dahlias that were available in the New York wholesale flower market. Truly, a piece of heaven!

It’s July and for me, that means a time of refreshment and an opportunity to learn new things at Flower School New York. I’ll be off next week to the Big Apple for more classes. This time I’ll be learning new techniques for making cascading wedding bouquets which have become the latest rage. The school will give a modern twist to these traditional styles. I’ll also learn new instruction for organic and contemporary church pews and garlands. I can’t wait!!

In March I attended a week-long wedding seminar there. I was taught by four of New York’s most successful and popular master florists, Michael George, Meredith Waga Perez, Remco van Vliet, and Elizabeth Ryan. I’ve attached a couple pictures from those classes. It was an opportunity of a lifetime!
Stay tuned for many up-coming weddings using the current biggest trend in color- ORANGE!

Both photos above show students in Elizabeth Ryan’s class. One is me working with another student in Elizabeth’s class.

These are photos with Master florist, Remco van Vliet, and me.

This week we are doing flowers for a baby shower using all natural elements and fresh flowers. The hostess of the shower wanted to use birds’ nests as her theme. We created a bird’s ‘nest’ from wire, raffia, grasses, and other natural materials and filled it with beautiful multi-colored flowers to coordinate with the table linens she was using. On another table, we created a ‘frame’ from natural water oak branches and attached fresh calla lilies and hydrangea. We also used masses of curly willow to accent fresh blooming begonias and large ferns on each side of the entrance to the home. Take a look at the photos- more will be posted soon!

Wow, hard to believe it’s January 2010! We had an extremely busy 4th quarter with weddings, giving the program and demonstrations at Cape Fear Garden Club in Wilmington in November, and many, many events and arrangements in December. Below I’ll post some of our work during that time and look forward to your comments. Look for our February Valentine’s Special which I will post this week!
